I am a scaredy but loving cat looking for a loving home but I have just turned one down. He wanted me because I was the same colour as one of his earlier cats... not a good reason, I think.
He also wanted to feed me dry food. I love it, but it doesn't love me. Because I spent the first 6 months of my life nearly starving and frightened, I find ordinary food difficult to digest.
I also have a weepy eye, possibly due to scarring from cat flu. And this would-be adopter didn't have a car so that taking me to a vet would be difficult.
Not the right home.
But will I get one?

Why, oh why do humans choose cats just for their colour. It's a ridiculous reason for adopting a cat. They should choose a cat to fit the lifestyle on offer.
You did the right thing. A home has to be right for you, not just any old home. Your earlier starvation and stress means that you cannot settle for less. Robust confident cats can thrive in any home. Fearful cats with possible health issues cannot.
You need a human who will feed you a bland diet for as long as it takes for your digestion to recover, with enough money for possible vet bills (they won't insure you with your background I think), a car for trips to the vet. In the mean time eat well, sleep a lot, and get Celia to cuddle you - which you enjoy greatly.

What a wonderful and important letter! We don't know why people put so much into the color of pets, either but you were right to turn down that potential home. We don't think you would be happy and that's the most important thing over all else. Your forever home is out there, dear Stella. Keep looking for that one special family!
ReplyDeleteOh Stella, you will find your home! I was in care almost three years ago... I was scared and so I hid and bit and scratched. I have a food issue, and needed to be fed sensitive wet food only. The stress of being in care made it worse :( But I had a lovely understanding fosterer. Things were okay. Then one day a daft hooman came along. She didn’t realise I was ‘hard to home’! She’d seen my profile and thought I sounded like the purrrfect friend for her. She wanted someone who was an adult cat, she worked part-time and lived alone so I could get lots of time with her, and understood I needed time and patience. I’d met other hoomans and was unsure so I ran away from her at first! She didn’t mind, sat and spoke to me. I went home with her not long after. Now we’re completely bonded! I have my own bank account for vetty things and I gradually got to eat real cat food. Yummy! Has to be the right home for us cats as the individuals we are. I told my fosterer I liked her. Was my choice not just the hoomans. Oh, and is not about fur colour. She likes black cats - I’m a tabby and proud! You will find your hooman too. Tiki x
